On behalf of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, we would like to thank you for all of your timely monthly pledges. Please continue to send your monthly pledges in order for us to be able to pay the large monthly expenses for your church.
We want to take the opportunity to thank our beloved and faithful priests, Father Michael and Father Andrawis for their full dedication and service to our parish since the consecration of our church and also thank them for their full faith, devotion, obedience and love to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and their Heavenly Mother, Mother Mary.
In the last Sunday’s mass the matter of “tithing” was discussed. So if you will allow us, we would like to discuss and tell you what the bible says about tithing. We will also discuss what we, as followers of Jesus Christ should know and do about tithing.
What is the tithe? The tithe is the first ten percent of our income. This 10% belongs to the Lord. There is also encouragement to give offerings for special needs, but offerings are above and beyond the tithe.
(2 Corinthians 9:6-8). Is tithing a part of the law that does not apply to us today? No. Tithing was established before the law was given by Moses (Genesis 14:20.) It was reaffirmed by Christ in the New Testament. (Matthew 23:23.) What is the real purpose of the tithe? The tithe serves the practical functions of supporting vital church ministries. However, the underlying purpose of the tithe is to learn to fear the Lord. God has promised to give wisdom and blessing to those who fear Him. (Deuteronomy 14:22-23). When should we pay the tithe? The tithe should be paid on the first day of each week. (1Corinthians 16:2).
In the following months I will share and discuss other topics, questions and more with you so we can get a better understanding of what the Lord expects from us when we think about tithing. May the love of God bless you and keep you and use you for His Glory.
Your servants in Christ: Ninous, Tom, Sam and Mark. (Proverbs 3:9-10)
